Derek Scott - Internal Family Systems Therapy
23/08/2019 Duração: 01h54s“There is nothing that any of us do that is not from a part of us that has a good intent, a positive intent. Even if it looks extreme.” Ever wanted to make sense of all the different voices in your head? Ever wondered why that critical part speaks so loud? Do you often feel conflicted with one voice saying one thing, and another saying the opposite? Derek Scott is an experienced Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist based in Canada and joins me for this podcast to discuss how IFS works and how it seeks to heal people and help them find inner peace. IFS is a therapy that is based on the idea that those multiple voices are all “parts” of you, and they all have a positive intention, even if it doesn’t seem that way at first. In the podcast, Derek and I have a great conversation about his journey into this type of therapy and there’s also a live demo, when my own inner critic surfaces! Adverse Childhood Experiences - Guest Episode - Dr Craig Joyce
16/08/2019 Duração: 01h13minIn this episode I'm joined by Dr Craig Joyce, a child and behavioural psychologist from Warwickshire, UK. Dr Joyce has years of experience working with children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and has a passion for understanding why young people behave the way they do. The episode focusses on children's behaviour, and towards the end we talk about how early trauma can affect our behaviour as adults. The key message to takeaway is that if you had any of these experiences as a child, they could well be effecting you now and healing is possible. There is so much research in this subject area. A simple google search of "Adverse Childhood Experiences" will give you plenty to go at.

Templates of Love
20/02/2019 Duração: 29minLove has been on my mind this month, perhaps because of Valentine's Day, perhaps because it's something that affects and alludes us all at some point in our lives. In this episode I take a closer look at why people might find themselves in unhealthy relationships and how the way we were raised as children can have a direct impact in defining what we call love - our template of love that is. In the episode I mention a couple of great people. Here are links to their websites. I encourage you to follow them on social media too :-) Dan Harris (not Matt!): https://www.10percenthappier.com Dr David Hamilton: https://drdavidhamilton.com

#BreakTheSilence - Guest Episode - Duncan Craig

Please take care of yourself when listening. There are links below to national support services, should you need them. In this episode I’m joined by Duncan Craig, CEO & Founder of Survivors Manchester, a charity based here in my home city. Duncan is also a qualified counsellor and likes to maintain his practice alongside running the charity. After breaking his silence about being sexually abused and raped as a child, Duncan struggled to find specialist support in Manchester, instead he had to travel over 300 miles each time he needed to access a support service in another part of the UK. After focussing on his own healing, in 2008 with just £250 in his pocket Duncan founded Survivors Manchester – a charity that supports male survivors of sexual abuse, harm and exploitation in Greater Manchester. In this podcast Duncan shares some of his personal story along with some o

23/07/2018 Duração: 01h02minWelcome to episode 007 of on my mind. The first female 007 I might add! Who doesn’t love a classic movie reference? With the constant stream of news about Donald Trump, The USA has been on my mind this week and I wanted to speak to someone living over there who I felt might be able to offer us a balanced view. As well as being a good friend, Elisabeth Olyvia Norton is a speaker, coach and teacher who has been playing and working in personal expansion for over 25 years. Having once been Elizabeth’s client, I can confirm she is a relentless optimist who knows that when you are in alignment with your biggest, best self, your capacity in life explodes. She believes in laughing loudly and often, even when it all looks like it’s going to shit! Elisabeth is solidly standing in the position that love will always pull us through. Living with HIV - Guest Episode - Nathaniel Hall
12/06/2018 Duração: 01h01minIn this episode I'm joined by Nathaniel Hall - a HIV+ queer activist and theatre-maker from Manchester. He writes, directs, inspires, and produces bold and provocative socially minded work. Diagnosed 2 weeks after his 17th birthday, and just months after coming out as gay, Nathaniel kept his HIV status secret from friends and family for over 14 years. After coming out of the closet (again) in late 2017, he's now advocating loudly for better contemporary representations of HIV in popular culture: Tom Hanks in Philadelphia just doesn't cut the mustard anymore... His funny and frank solo show about growing up queer and HIV+ in a straight and HIV- world, First Time, is set to premiere in Manchester this Autumn.
