  • 120: The Suicide Squad (2021)

    02/05/2022 Duração: 52min

Our very occasional podcast returns with an episode we recorded last summer. Time is fake! Fortunately, our dear friends Sam & Jessica have accepted our invitation into DCEU purgatory and now there's no going back for them or us. But this movie was very popular & now you can find out if we agreed with last summer's general consensus. Find us all on Twitter: Sam: Jessica: Nicole: Marines:

  • 119: Black Widow (2021)

    07/02/2022 Duração: 56min

Last summer we invited our friends Rich Camillucci and Nick Jenkins back to talk about Black Widow. This is before any subsequent movies came out, so it's possible we've formed some new opinions since then, but that's for another episode! Find us all on Twitter: Nick: Rich: Nicole: Marines:

  • 118: Our 2021 in Media (????? idk man)

    25/01/2022 Duração: 57min

Hey we're alive! Who can even say where we've been. What really matters is that this annual podcast episode is a tradition we cherish, so here we are. Find us on Twitter: Nicole: Marines:

  • Shadow & Bone (2021– ) season 1

    20/07/2021 Duração: 01h16min

Things we love: book adaptations & pretending time has no meaning. We were not big fans of the grisha books (neither of us managed to read all 5 that this show is based on) but we wanted to talk about this show anyway, so we asked two of our good friends who *are* fans to come chat about it with us. Find us all on Twitter: Paige: Sam: Nicole: Marines:

  • 116: WandaVision (2021)

    10/05/2021 Duração: 57min

Our pals Rich Camillucci and Nick Jenkins are back to talk about the MCU's expansion into television with WandaVision. It was a nice break from the MCU, but here we all are again, like we never really left. Find us all on Twitter: Nick: Rich: Nicole: Marines:

  • 115: The DC Extended Universe, part 3

    06/04/2021 Duração: 01h14min

PART 3 of 3 of our DCEU marathon! We have reached the end and are closing out this project with Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey, and Wonder Woman 1984. We had some disagreements over rankings but universal agreement that this was the most enjoyable batch of movies for the entire project. We had lots of feelings about big action set pieces, terrible wigs, and villains who maybe didn't get punched enough. Find us all on Twitter: Sam: Jessica: Nicole: Marines:

  • 114: Justice League (2017)

    15/03/2021 Duração: 01h10min

PART 2 of our 3 part DCEU marathon! We decided to give Justice League its own episode mostly because we weren't entirely sure where else to put it, but it turns out to be a whole lot of nothing. In spite of being a whole lot of nothing, we had plenty to say about nonsensical character motivations, people who seem to be in different movies, and a deeply underwhelming villain. • 113: The DC Extended Universe, part 1

    01/03/2021 Duração: 01h14min

When we were making our way through the MCU the elephant in the room was always whether we were ever going to talk about the DC movies on the podcast. There was a brighter time when we loved ourselves more and we said "No ❤️" but that time has passed and now here we are. We asked two of our friends to join us on this 3-part journey, and for some reason they agreed? In this first episode we are discussing Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman. Find us all on Twitter: Sam: Jessica: Nicole: Marines:

  • 112: Daughter Of Smoke And Bone

    15/02/2021 Duração: 01h11min

In ~*the before*~ we might have been a bit more hesitant to choose a ten year old book trilogy with no known adaptations in the works, but guess what time means nothing now! This was our Discord book club pick back in May, so this episode is a long time in the making. Our friend Chelsea returns to the podcast to help us discuss Karou and chimera and angels and Laini Taylor's writing. Find us all on Twitter: Chelsea: Nicole: Marines:

  • 111: His Dark Materials S2 (2020)

    08/02/2021 Duração: 53min

In a rare move: we are actually returning to a show for the second season! Less surprising, of course, that it's *this* show, an adaptation of a beloved book series that we also dedicated three whole podcast episodes to. Join us as we get excited about Lyra & Will finally being together, form the Ruth Wilson stan club, and lament the presence of all other adults. Find us on Twitter: Jocelyn: Nicole: Marines:

  • 110: The Queen's Gambit (2020)

    25/01/2021 Duração: 51min

We watched the Netflix chess show! And had a lot of feelings about it! Find us all on Twitter: Taylor: Nicole: Marines:

  • 109: Our 2020 in Media (lol)

    31/12/2020 Duração: 01h01min

HELLO AGAIN IT IS US! WE HAVE RETURNED FROM THE DEPTHS OF THIS YEAR BECAUSE IT'S TRADITION! (healwayswavesatthegate) This episode is a little chaotic so please join us as we try to... remember things. Thanks to Stefan Chin for our theme music: Find us on Twitter: Nicole: Marines:

  • 108: Enola Holmes (2020)

    17/10/2020 Duração: 49min

In search of cheap serotonin in these dark times, we watched the Netflix movie Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown. The movie is adapted from the first book in a middle grade series, which only one of us actually read first. Find out whether we charmed by this movie, himbo Sherlock, Enola's breaking the third wall, and her mother's commitment to the feminist agenda TM. • 107: Motherland: Fort Salem (2020- )

    10/08/2020 Duração: 48min

In this episode, we are joined by Lainey Kress to discuss season one of Motherland: Fort Salen, a Freeform show that asks what if the Salem Witches became the US Army. We all pretty much enjoyed that bonkers premise, though we also have a lot of questions, a short wish-list for season two, and strong opinions on the astrological signs of fictional characters.

  • 106: The Half of It (2020)

    25/05/2020 Duração: 57min

This week we are joined by Ceri Riley to discuss the Netflix original film The Half of It. This coming of age dramedy was a combination of a number of story elements that felt pretty calibrated for us to love it and we loved talking about it almost as much as the movie itself. Find us all on Twitter: Ceri: Nicole: Marines:

  • 105: The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

    12/05/2020 Duração: 59min

This episode was recorded about a month ago and our decision to re-read The Hunger Games was made well before we had any notion of being quarantined. We decided to do a big group re-read of The Hunger Games on our Discord server in anticipation of the upcoming release of the prequel novel. We invited our friend Sam (@democracydiva) back on the show to talk to us about all things Hunger Games. We talked about our history with the series, PTSD, whether or not it holds up, the fashion, and so much more. Find us all on Twitter: Sam: Nicole: Marines:

  • 104: Emma. (2020)

    30/03/2020 Duração: 54min

While we already did an episode on Jane Austen's Emma around this time last year, as fans of Austen's work we couldn't miss the opportunity to talk about Autumn de Wilde's colorful new adaptation of the classic novel & pick two more friends to discuss all things Emma with. Find us on Twitter: Deboki: Jocelyn: Nicole: Marines:

  • 103: Birds of Prey (2020)

    03/03/2020 Duração: 52min

After making our way through the entire MCU, we finally watched a DC movie! And a villain one, no less! Find out if this movie was too Not For Us to be enjoyed or if we somehow managed to have fun anyway in this week's episode. Find us all on Twitter: Jessica: Nicole: Marines:

  • 102: His Dark Materials (2019– )S1

    10/02/2020 Duração: 58min

As big fans of the His Dark Materials book trilogy, we were, of course, excited and nervous about the BBC/HBO adaptation. As we try to sort through all our many (many, many, many) feelings about the show, we are joined by our good friend Jocelyn who has loved the books since she was a child. (And also had many, many, many feelings.) Find us on Twitter: Jocelyn: Nicole: Marines:

  • 101: The Witcher (2019– )

    23/01/2020 Duração: 57min

After years of trying to get Nicole to play a video game and share her love of The Witcher, Marines was rewarded with a Netflix adaptation. To sift through all of our feelings about this first season of The Witcher, we are joined by author and fellow game-fan Susan Dennard & our friend Deboki.
