  • 2022 Episode 29: False Hope For The Huskers?

    02/10/2022 Duração: 01h15min

Is Nebraska's win over Indiana feeding false hope into the fan base? Dr. Rob isn't ready to go that far. However, in this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sportsbook, Dr. Rob and Travis Justice remind everyone that the Hoosiers aren't a very good team and were missing two of their best wide receivers. Dr. Rob's report card for the game was not as generous as many would have liked coming off a win.  Dr. Rob's Report Card Running Game B- Passing Game B- Offensive Line C- Defense C+ Special Teams B+ Overall C Dr. Rob is particularly critical of the offensive line. Specifically the play of Bryce Benhart and Turner Corcoran. Dr. Rob knows a thing or two about O-Line play and knows the Huskers running and passing games could be much better if the line or the personnel changed.  The win over Indiana is a step in the right direction for Nebraska. The confidence builder is a Huge boost for coaches, players, and fans. It is hard not to look ahead because of Nebraska's favorable schedule. Yes, winni

  • 2022 Episode 28: Can A Week Off Fix The Problems?

    25/09/2022 Duração: 01h11min

The Nebraska fan base seemed to be a lot less stressed this past week.  Maybe the week off was as much needed for the fan base as it was for the players?  In this week's Doc Talk Podcast presented by BetFred Sportsbook, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice discuss if a week off can fix all the problems the Nebraska football team faces. Up next for Nebraska is Indiana. The Hoosiers are coming off their first season loss, falling to Cincinnati. Indiana didn't do itself any favors by turning the ball over three times and allowing the Bearcats to score 14-points in a time span of 10-seconds. All part of a 28-point 2nd quarter for Cincinnati.  The rumor mill was running a full speed during the off week. Many stories, podcasts, and videos discuss who would be the ideal candidate for the Nebraska job. Dr. Rob and Travis don't have a strong opinion one way or another as they both agree it's a crap shoot on whether or not one coach succeeds and one doesn't. Many people are watching Dave Aranda at Baylor, Matt Campbell

  • 2022 Episode 27: Another Sacrifice At The Altar Of Nebraska Football

    19/09/2022 Duração: 01h06min

Last week it was Scott Frost. This week it's Defensive Coordinator Eric Chinander who is fired. Let's be honest; this is not exactly a huge shock as many people think he should have been fired right along with Frost.  The Nebraska defense was horrible against Oklahoma. Giving up 312-Rushing yards and 49 unanswered points. Mickey Joseph was left with little joins as he tries to salvage a season where Nebraska is not 1-3. If there was ever a time for a bye week, this is it! Will there be more changes?  Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice discuss on this week's Doc Talk Podcast!  Betfred Sports presents the Doc Talk Podcast. Never miss a bet with Betfred Sports. • 2022 Episode 26: Scott Frost Is Fired

    12/09/2022 Duração: 02h19min

This podcast is a replay of the live show Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka did the night Scott Frost was fired as Nebraska's Head Coach. Mickey Joseph will serve as Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2022 season. Nebraska lost to Georgia Southern last night 45-42 in Frost's last game as Head Coach. The Huskers are 1-2 on the season. Frost ends his Nebraska coaching career with a 16-31 record, 0-13 against ranked teams, and 5-19 in games decided by 7 points or less. Frost failed to produce a winning season at Nebraska and never qualified for a bowl game. Frost, a National Championship-winning quarterback for the Huskers, came to Nebraska following an undefeated season at Central Florida. He was considered a "Home Run" hire who could unite the fan base. The Wood River native is scheduled to receive a $15-million buyout of his contract.  Betfred Sports presents the Doc Talk Podcast. • 2022 Episode 25: There’s A lot of Work To Do!

    06/09/2022 Duração: 01h27min

On paper, 38-17 looks like a pretty good final score as Nebraska beats North Dakota. However, Doctor Rob Zatechka says there is a lot of work to make a believer out of him going forward. The next real measuring stick will be the Oklahoma game in a couple of weeks. First, Nebraska must get through Georgia Southern, coached by former USC Head Coach Clay Helton. Georgia Southern scored 59-points in a win last weekend.  In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sportsbook.  Dr. Rob breaks down his report card from the North Dakota game. Yes, his grading scale is a little weird, but things will make a lot more sense after he explains it.  Dr. Rob and Travis Justice spend a lot of time discussing the offense. Specifically the offensive line and the running game. The runningbacks are in place and impressive. Will the offensive line be able to hold up for the season to support them? The defense is also discussed, as well as the improvement in the special teams, which we all know can be the differen

  • 2022 Episode 24: You Have To Be F’ing Kidding!

    29/08/2022 Duração: 01h15min

#SorryDave If you don't like the F-word, best stop listening right now. At the Betfred Sportsbook Nebraska was a 13.5-point favorite on Wednesday night. At game time on Saturday morning, that line had dropped to 10.  Still, a double-digit spread, but that is some major movement.  Northwestern 31 Nebraska 28. You have to be F-in kidding! What was supposed to be the good fortune of the Irish for Nebraska turned into the horror movie Leprechaun! The only good part about the day was all the free beer because the internet was down at the stadium. The pressure is mounting, and all eyes are on Scott Frost. As much as he talks about the culture being the best it's been, he said a couple of things in his post-game press conference that would have you believe maybe that's not the case.  Dr. Rob sounds off on another disappointing loss for Nebraska on this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sportsbook.  Additionally, he goes in-depth and the grades he handed out for the game.  Betfred Sports presents t

  • 2022 Episode 22: A Close Look at Northwestern

    19/08/2022 Duração: 01h34min

*Programing Note, this edition of the BetFred Sports Doc Talk podcast was recorded before Casey Thompson was named the starting quarterback. And before Scott Frost claimed the offensive line has been puking a lot in practice because they have been working so hard. Also, we swear on this podcast. If you don't like swear words, don't listen.  We are a week away from the season opener—Nebraska vs. Northwestern in Dublin, Ireland. The Husker will head across the pond on Monday to acclimate to the time change and the surroundings.  On this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice dive into the opponent. Northwestern has been a roller coaster as of late. First place, last place, first place, last place. Is this year the Wildcats start heading back uphill? To find out, we welcome Louie Vaccher to the podcast. Louie is a Northwestern graduate and runs the Wildcat Report, part of the Rivals Network.  Last year, Nebraska steamrolled Northwestern 56-7. Louie is not

  • 2022 Episode 21: Fall Camp with Mitch Sherman

    15/08/2022 Duração: 01h27min

We swear in this episode. Not very much, but we do swear.  We are less than two weeks away from the season opener. There was no media availability after Sunday’s scrimmage. On Saturday, Head Coach Scott Frost said he would have more answers to the pressing questions heading into the long road trip to Ireland to play Northwestern after the Scrimmage. In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice welcome Mitch Sherman from the Athletic into the studio. This is the podcast to listen to if you want a serious football discussion. Yes, we still drink beer. Yes, we still go off on tangents. But Mitch provides great insight into fall camp and a deep dive on the runningbacks and offensive line.  Betfred Sports presents the Doc Talk Podcast. Never miss a bet with Betfred Sports. • 2020 Episode 20: What We Hear and What We Think

    05/08/2022 Duração: 01h31min

Proceed with caution; we say naughty words.  Almost two weeks into Fall Camp and things are changing daily. Based on comments made this past week by Offensive Coordinator Mark Whipple, it would appear that Casey Thompson is the number one quarterback and takes most of the snaps. Of course, nothing will be official until the depth chart is released, and we know that Scott Frost wants to wait as long as possible for that to happen.  In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice play a little game of what we hear and think. We heard Whipple talk on Wednesday after practice and Bill Busch on Thursday. In general, both coaches were positive about the way things were going but were there some hidden messages in what they were saying? We think so, and we will give you our opinion about the quarterbacks, the offensive line, and the special teams.  We have a guest this week. Bryan Bennett from Betfred Sports joins us to discuss our relationship with the sports

    28/07/2022 Duração: 01h31min

Disclaimer: If you don’t like people who swear, you won’t like this podcast.  The Huskers have started practice, and Big 10 Media Days have come and gone! What does this mean for the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports? Well, it means we are now balls to the wall with an episode weekly from now until the end of the season.  Dr. Rob Zatecka and Travis Justice go full-on football and beer tonight! First, the beer from North Texas That packs a punch! The Double Half-Life from the Manhattan Project Brewing Company is 8%. The Full Grown Man from Topps Brewery is a whopping 12%. Needless to say, Dr.Rob stayed in the studio long after the recording stopped!  Scott Frost had an awkward start to Big 10 Media Days. The start of his press conference was silent. Finally, he broke the ice by asking questions. He got plenty and addressed being on the hot seat, which is no surprise to anyone.  The Huskers have started practice and will go three days on and one day off. Are there advantages to this routine? Are ther

  • 2022 Episode 18: The Ultimate Helmet Collection

    19/07/2022 Duração: 01h34min

Warning! We swear. There, you’ve been warned. Close your eyes and paint a picture. What does your ultimate mancave look like? Okay, maybe we shouldn’t assign gender to this. What does your ultimate basement room dedicated to sports look like?  Some of you already have your dream room that’s full of Husker memorabilia, photos, jerseys, etc. Some people will pump a ton of money into their cave to create the ultimate miniature sports museum.  On this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, we have a conversation with Jerry Quickel. Jerry and Dr. Rob are connections on Twitter. Jerry got a lot of attention when he put all the helmets he owns in his front yard. There are over 400! New helmets arrive daily, and he keeps making room for them in his basement. These full-sized helmets span the NFL, USFL, NCAA (all divisions), NAIA, and Junior Colleges. How does one get all these helmets? How does one store all these helmets? Are there any helmets he doesn’t have? We answer all these questions in o

  • 2022 Episode 17: Dairy Queen Has The Best Ice Cream!

    11/07/2022 Duração: 01h10min

Come on, who doesn’t love Dairy Queen Ice Cream? We get into the subject towards the end of the episode. On this week’s Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice pick up the conversation where they left off last week.  Conference realignment. Nothing monumental has happened since USC and UCLA announced plans to bolt for the Big 10 but there are tremors and more change in the college football landscape is not a matter of if, but when. All eyes are on Notre Dame, it is the golden ticket for both the Big Ten and the SEC. If the Irish choose to join a conference it could mean game, set, and match in the race for the almighty dollar and CFB supremacy.  But Notre Dame isn’t the only school at play here. The SEC is looking to expand and the schools being mentioned are: Clemson Florida State North Carolina Virginia All from the ACC.  But where does this leave Miami? Does the “U” have enough clout to get invited to the Big Boys Club?  Do a combined PAC-12 and Big 12 move the ne

  • 2022 Episode 16: Welcome USC and UCLA

    03/07/2022 Duração: 01h14min

Disclaimer: Before you listen any further. This podcast is hosted by two men who drink beer. There will be times when there is swearing, including the "F" word. If you are offended easily, best to turn off now. Also, we talk about and partake in alcoholic beverages and gambling.  What a week for the Big 10 Conference! The college football landscape as we know it continues to experience seismic shifts. Starting in 2024, the Big 10 will stretch from sea to shining sea with the addition of USC and UCLA.  When the news dropped, the entire world seemed shocked at the major coup Big 10 Commissioner Kevin Warren pulled off. However, if you went back almost a year ago, we discussed the possibility of it happening right here on the podcast.  In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sports, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice dive further into what conference expansion looks like. We've said it before, and we will repeat it, it's not about what schools provide the best competition to the rest of the

  • 2022 Episode 14: Luke Reimer and Nick Henrich Talk NIL and ABM

    28/05/2022 Duração: 01h11min

Name, image, and likeness have changed college athletics drastically. However, one of the most significant changes that we like is the accessibility to student-athletes and their ability to come on podcasts like ours.  We did NOT pay Luke Reimer and Nick Henrich to be on this episode, for the record. However, they are in the studio with Gerrod Lambrecht from ABM, a branding and marketing firm representing Nebraska student-athletes. In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast Presented by Betfred Sports, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice have an entertaining conversation with Reimer, Henrich, and Lambrecht. We talk a lot about the NIL process, how it works with Nebraska student-athletes, and its impact in the locker room, if any. And what are these guys spending their money on? Don't worry; we also talk about the upcoming football season and the pressure with it. Of course, players don't need to be reminded, but we do anyway, that they need to win and win now!  If you would like Travis and Dr.  Rob to come to sp
