    27/11/2021 Duração: 01h10min

There's always next year. Really, what else can you say? Nebraska finishes the regular season 3-9, it's worst since the 1961 season. The only wins the Huskers were able to muster up in 2021: Fordham Buffalo Northwestern Eight of Nebraska's nine losses were by 8-points or less. This has led many people to say Nebraska is the best 3-9 team in the country.  Let's be honest, there is no such thing as 3-9 is just that, 3-9.  Ont this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice talk about the season-ending loss to Iowa and it followed the script for the entire season of disappointment and what-ifs.  Yes, there's always next year, but will one more year be enough for Scott Frost? Listen to hear what Doctor Rob has to say.  Additionally, there are a lot of decisions that need to be made by Scott Frost in a short amount of time.  He needs to fill the assistant coaching vacancies, Adrian Martinez needs to decide if he's coming back, and oh yes, there's r

    21/11/2021 Duração: 01h16min

The yearly showdown we wait patiently until the last game of the season for.  The Hero's Game as Nebraska takes on Iowa. Or for you regular listeners to this podcast, Rob (Nebraska) vs. Travis (Iowa).  The Huskers have lost five-in-a-row and will not be going to a bowl game.  However, Nebraska has been competitive in every one of the five losses and could have won the game in many cases. This includes the most recent loss, 35-28 at Wisconsin on Saturday. Bad special teams, interceptions, and horrendous officiating keep Nebraska fans infuriated.  On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice take friendly shots at each other about this week's game. The early line has Nebraska a 4-point favorite despite having a losing record and Iowa having nine wins.  How about this, a Husker fan that graduated from the University of Iowa. Centris Federal Credit Union President and CEO Steve Swanstrom stops by and tells us how he ended up in Iowa City

  • 2021 Episode 22: Giving Up Play Caling Duties

    14/11/2021 Duração: 01h06min

One of the many changes in the Husker football program over the past week is the revelation that when Scott Frost hires a new Offensive Coordinator, he will be handing over the play-calling duties to the new OC. What does Dr. Rob Zatechka think about this change?  You will find out by listening to this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy.  We don't talk a lot about the changes on the Husker staff; we covered that last week in a live stream.  If you missed that conversation, you can watch it by clicking the link below. CLICK HERE TO WATCH Also, Dr. Rob discusses the loss of JoJo Domann for the remainder of the season and the effect it will have on the last two games of the season, at Wisconsin and home against Iowa.  After you listen to the podcast, would you please give it a rating or a review? • 2021 Episode 21: Close Doesn‘t Count Anymore

    07/11/2021 Duração: 01h09min

As humans, we can convince ourselves of things as being true even when they aren't. For example, the narrative right now is that Nebraska is the best three-win team in the country. What does that even mean? Seriously, what does that mean? Saying that is just an excuse to feel good about losing close games.  You can spin things any way you want, but the fact doesn't change that the Huskers are 3-7 on the season and 1-6 in the Big 10 Conference. So Nebraska is guaranteed to have a losing record again and miss a bowl game again.  On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka, and Travis Justice discuss the loss to Ohio State. The cold hard truth is that close doesn't count anymore. The only thing that matters now and the only things that count are wins. Until the Huskers start getting some, one, anything, it doesn't matter.  The Huskers have a bye week and then close the season against Wisconsin and Iowa. Win one or both and the narrative starts to change.

  • 2021 Espisiode 20: Is The End Near?

    31/10/2021 Duração: 01h39min

Is the end near for Scott Frost? Only Trev Alberts knows that answer, but it is starting to feel like the perfect candidate for the Nebraska job 4-years ago is not so perfect after all.  Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice just happened to have on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 while recording this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy. There's a scene a the end of the movie that resembles Nebraska football these days.  Lucious Malfoy carried the torch for Lord Voldemort until he realized the torch was going to go out. So Lucious, his wife Narcissa, and son Draco snuck out of Hogwarts during the final battle to save their own lives and any dignity they had left. Four years ago, the Nebraska media was a lot like the Malfoy family. They believed in Scott Frost and have pushed his agenda and approach to rebuild a program. But, unfortunately, after Nebraska lost to Purdue yesterday, those same disciples are turning into modern-day Judas'.  Just read what they all

  • 2021 Espisode 19:Talking Natural Grass!

    24/10/2021 Duração: 01h22min

A couple of weeks ago Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts mentioned on Sports Nightly that the turf at Memorial Stadium needed to be replaced. A caller asked him if he would consider natural grass.  Trev gave it some thought and said he would explore the idea. On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice go on a natural grass expedition. We talk to Brad Jakubowski. Brad is a Grand Island native, worked at the University of Nebraska, and is now an instructor of Plant Science at Penn State. He's pro grass and has good reason to be. If you are worried that Nebraska won't be able to have large stadium concerts like Garth Brooks, don't be.  Brad explains why.  As you will find out, grass technology has made a lot of improvements in the last 20-years.  Before our conversation about grass, Dr. Rob and Travis talk about the bye week and the upcoming game with Purdue.  After you listen to the podcast, would you please give it a rating or a re

  • 2021 Episode 18: No Easy Answers

    18/10/2021 Duração: 01h05min

It does look like a broken record. The same mistakes that plague the Huskers for the last several seasons continue to haunt them.  They come at the worst times in a game, and the errors are so costly there's just no way to recover from them. A lot of you are so passionate and write us emails every week seeking the answers. But, unfortunately, Dr. Rob wants you to know there are no easy answers.  Should Nebraska have kicked a field goal on 4th and short or go for it?  Will Adrian Martinez ever make a play late in the game to give the Huskers a win? Or better yet, why does he keep making bad decisions with the game on the line?  Will Adrain Martinez be the quarterback at Nebraska next season, or will he enter the transfer portal?  Is Scott Frost the head coach at Nebraska next year?  All good questions with no easy answers, but we address them all on this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy.  After you listen to the podcast, would you please give it a rating or a review? Why

  • 2021 Episode 17: Close Drives Doctor Rob To Drink More

    10/10/2021 Duração: 01h24min

There is no doubt that Nebraska is improving. The close losses are proof; it has lost to three teams currently ranked in the top ten by 13 points. So we know the Huskers can "play" with some of the best countries. However, what we don't know yet is if Nebraska can beat the top-level teams. There will be more opportunities as two more teams are currently ranked in the top ten, #6 Ohio State and #2 Iowa on the schedule.  On this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob hits the sauce hard! Close losses will make you drink! The more he consumes, the more he unloads on the following: Turnovers Penalties Big 10 Officiating To go or not go for a field goal What is now a MUST win situation vs. Minnesota After you listen to the podcast, would you please give it a rating or a review? • 2021 Episode 16: A Social Experiement

    03/10/2021 Duração: 01h22min

This week's episode of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy is a social experiment. Do Husker fans like hearing about the negative? Or are they more focused on the positive?  For the past several weeks, the downloads of this podcast have been at record numbers. Of course, in years past, we always see an uptick in listens when the Huskers lost.  But how about when they win? Well, Nebraska just played one of its most complete games in years. So will people take the time to listen to what Doctor Rob Zatechka has to say?  We hope so because he has a lot of good things today, especially about the adjustments on the offensive line. Dr. Rob also digs into a couple of key statistics to the Husker's success against Northwestern. The key moving forward? I'll give it away, consistency.  Up next for the Huskers, 9th ranked Michigan. The Wolverines are winning, and their head coach Jim Harbaugh is keeping a pretty low profile. Michigan's defense is stout, a will be an actual test for a Nebraska offens

  • 2021 Episode 15: It‘s A Broken Record

    26/09/2021 Duração: 01h16min

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. But, unfortunately, Nebraska keeps making the same mistakes week in and week out, and it produces similar if not the same result... losses. Turnovers Penalties Special Teams Mistakes Poor Offensive Line Play On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Travis Justice and Dr. Rob Zatechka discuss the latest broken record for the Huskers, a 23-20 overtime loss at Michigan State. Nebraska should have and could have won the game, but the mistakes listed above come back to haunt them again.  How do you fix it? Dr. Rob's diagnosis is not an easy one as he says it comes down to discipline, which is a reflection of the program's culture. He's not saying it can't be fixed; it's just hard to flip the switch like that in the middle of the season.  Dr. Rob also spends a lot of time discussing the offensive line. He says there may be a point when recruiting o-lineman that th

  • 2021 Espisode 14: Lots of Good to Go With The Bad

    20/09/2021 Duração: 01h25min

The emails started flooding into the Doc Talk Sports inbox almost as soon as the game started. Nebraska fans were watching the Huskers give #3 Oklahoma a run for its money, but time and time again, mental mistakes, turnovers, and special teams stopped the Husker from pulling off the upset.  Overwhelmingly the criticism was directed at the offensive line. To be even more specific, o-line coach Greg Austin. It’s not easy for Husker fans to criticize a former player, but fans expect results and improvement when you put the whistle around your neck. Unfortunately, right about now, they’ve seen enough from a unit that, to this point, has not earned the title of “pipeline.”  In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy Dr. Rob Zatechka goes into great detail about the o-line and why he thinks they are having problems. Talent is not the issue according to Dr. Rob. Coaching is a part of the problem, but not all of it. Remember that offensive scheme that Scott Frost bragged about? You kn

  • 2021 Episode 13: The Origin of the Pipeline

    12/09/2021 Duração: 01h13min

Have you ever wondered where the term "Pipeline" was coined for the Nebraska offensive line?  Dr. Rob Zatechka tells us the story of how it took over 3-years to convince the powers to be to go along with the idea. It's a great story that started with a question from Chad Carr from Ticket Express in this week's Ticket Talk segment brought to you by Ticket Express.  The Rimington Trophy presents this weekly podcast during the season. Nebraska is now 2-1 on the season after taking care of Buffalo on September 11. It's ironic that Dr. Rob tells the Pipeline story because a lot of the questions coming in from listeners are about the offensive line. Dr. Rob goes into great detail about the o-line, says one excuse he's not buying is being inexperienced and youth.  Also, Oklahoma is up next for Nebraska. The 50th Anniversary of the game of the century. What does the showdown with the Sooners mean to Dr. Rob? You might be surprised after listening.  After you listen to the podcast, would you please give it a rating

  • 2021 Episode 12: Fordham Is A False Positive

    05/09/2021 Duração: 01h08min

It's easy to look at the Husker's 52-7 win over Fordham and think that all is right in the world. However, looking at the data, the numbers would indicate the ship is on the right track.  633 yards of total offense 34 first downs 12-19 on 3rd down conversions 4-4 on 4th down conversions Three interceptions But on this week's Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, former Husker All-American Dr. Rob Zatechka gives his official diagnosis. In his expert opinion, the win over the Rams was a false positive. Although Dr. Rob doesn't want you to be disheartened by what he thinks, he's all in favor of more testing. He believes the game against Buffalo on Saturday will give a better indication if Nebraska is improving. Even more so in the game in two weeks again, Oklahoma.  How did Dr. Rob come to his conclusion? First, he dove deep into the numbers and found some disturbing trends that might be overlooked. Also, he doesn't consider Fordham an elite FCS team, and the fact that it took until

Illinois 30 Nebraska 22. By now, you know the final score. So the reaction to losing the first game of Scott Frost's fourth season at Nebraska is not met with that much surprise or shock. But, sadly, as Coach Frost said himself after the game, it's the same movie.  On this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice discuss what went wrong vs. the Illini. Yes, it's the same old mental mistakes—turnovers, penalties, special teams mess-ups that doomed the Huskers. But Dr. Rob gives a deeper diagnosis that has more to do with coaching and the team's ability to make adjustments. Will this coaching staff learn? What's next for a team that, on paper, has two should be cream puffs coming up on the schedule that could lead to a false sense of security.  After you listen to the podcast, would you please give it a rating or a review. • 2021 Episode 10: A lot Has Happened Since The Last Time We Talked!

    22/08/2021 Duração: 39min

You might be asking yourself, it's been a busy news week for Nebraska football; where in the hell has Dr. Rob Zatechka been?  It's a good question, and here is an explanation. First of all Travis Justice, (the other dude on this podcast and the one who has the fancy studio gear to record) had to drive a car to New Orleans to give to his sophomore in college. Then, as soon as Travis got back from the Cresent City, Rob did the same thing for his daughter in Tallahassee, Florida.  Knowing they couldn't wait any longer, you will find this discussion to be a little different from previous recordings. Dr. Rob is in on the road and on the phone. They try and cover all thig big things that have happened over the last two weeks like: The NCAA Investigation Is someone trying to sabotage Scott Frost The season opener vs. Illinois Bo Pelini podcast appearance I can confidently say Dr. Rob is wearing his seatbelt and using a hands-free device while doing this recording. • 2021 Episode 9: The"V" Word!

    08/08/2021 Duração: 01h02min

We've been told a thousand times, never talk about religion and politics on the podcast. We've done it a couple of times, and despite making some people mad, everything turned out okay.   In this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice talk about the "V" word. Get your mind of the gutter, not that "V" word. We are talking about vaccinations. Depending on how you feel, this might be the same as talking about religion and politics.    Why talk about this now? Well, COVID cases are increasing not just in Nebraska but all over the country. Husker Head Coach Scott Frost has said he's not yet comfortable with the team's vaccination rate. The Delta variant of the virus seems to be affecting young adults and children more than the older population. A high percentage of people being hospitalized and dying are unvaccinated.    Since Dr. Rob is a doctor, he's more than qualified to give his opinion on the matter. He's just lucky enough to do a p

  • 2021 Episode 8: This Isn't Over. What's Coming Next?

    01/08/2021 Duração: 01h05min

Five weeks! The countdown is on to the start of the college football season. Nebraska had its annual fan day, and practice has started. In this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by the Rimington Trophy, Dr. Rob Zatechka says we can talk until we are red in the face about what "could" be this season for the Huskers. Still, the reality is nobody has a clue until that first game. What continues to dominate the discussion of college football is conference realignment. Dr. Rob and Travis Justice pick up the conversation right where they left last week.  As predicted, a lot has changed since our drunk-filled recording. Texas and Oklahoma accepted the invitation to join the SEC. The move is sure to set off a reaction of even more schools posturing for the massive amounts of money that are sure to be generated. You may have noticed Nebraska and the Big 10, for the matter, have been pretty quiet when it comes to realignment. However, one thing is clear, if the Big 10 is going to keep pace with the SEC, it wi

  • 2021 Episode 7: What We Know Today Will Be Different Tomorrow

The SEC, Texas, and Oklahoma threw the college football world into a tizzy this past week. First, the Houston Chronicle reported that the Big 12 Conference rivals would leave the Big 12 for the SEC.  If this move does take place, it will have a ripple effect throughout college sports and conferences.   If you are worried, you should be! Here's one thing we know, what we know today most likely will be completely different tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that, and so on.  Who's controlling all this chaos?  It's not a who; it's the almighty dollar.  Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice get really drunk and talk conference realignment in this edition of the Husker Doc Talk Podcast and talk about this real life game of survivor. 05/07/2021 Duração: 01h04min
