Take My Advice – Audio Podcast

    01/04/2021 Duração: 31min

Advice can be pretty cheap a lot of the time but now and again some really good, life-altering advice comes along. If you are the giver of good advice, it’s important to offer it in a way that allows the recipient an opportunity to take it onboard or not.  However, there are times when advice needs to become direction and an adjustment in the delivery to differentiate the two is important.  Right now the world is full of good advice and bad. There’s a lot of people with some very strong opinions. As you’ll learn here, I took the advice to have a covid vaccination. That’s because I believe in what the vast majority of the scientific population believe too - that immunity is a team effort.  If this is not a risk you personally wish to take, that is your prerogative, just as this is mine.    Enjoy the good advice.  Watch on Youtube here: https://youtu.be/-Vx-cDHmcn0   Missed the previous show? How Hope Helps Depression

    24/02/2021 Duração: 50min

In this podcast we explore whether there are core principles that help to increase a persons feelings of hopefulness and how cognitive behaviour strategies such as NLP can help us to develop more hope.  Using real-life examples I have come across I’ll give you my honest opinion on the definitions of a hopeful person, as explained int he nurturing hope article that is shared. Furthermore, we discuss how to increase hope in a depressed patient and how just a flicker of hope can be the much-needed ingredient to get them on the right path to improvement.  This is a link to the special article mentioned: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4172306 And this is the article about hopeful people: https://blog.iqmatrix.com/nurturing-hope  Watch on Youtube here: https://youtu.be/JTVV1-4ICTg   Missed the previous show? I think You’ve Got a Problem: How to Raise a Mental Health Illness or Concern

    21/01/2021 Duração: 39min

Around 25% of people will suffer from some kind of mental health problem in their life. That means there is a strong likelihood that we will all come into contact with someone who is experiencing a problem at some point in time. Some mental health concerns are at a level whereby people can still continue to live, socialise and communicate in spite of their struggles whilst other mental health illnesses are more severe and require ongoing support from highly qualified professionals. In addition, early neurological problems can also appear on the surface to echo many of the issues we see in mental health issues. Therefore, practitioners working in mental health require awareness of the more severe conditions in order to redirect their clients when problems arise that are outside of their skillset.  Talking to someone about their mental health, especially when they lack insight, is incredibly challenging. I hope that in this video you learn some ways to have a conversation with someone that you have concerns abo

Stop Taking on Other’s Responsibilities – The Not NLP Podcast Episode 37

    18/11/2020 Duração: 14min

If you are feeling overwhelmed with the amount responsibilities you have on your plate at the moment then this is the podcast for you.  First, we take a dive into why having responsibilities can be a good thing for helping you to, in essence, manipulate others by increasing the levels of empathy and trust they feel towards you.  Then, we’ll look more closely at when responsibility-taking can become unhealthy and how it can be used to mask issues from childhood.  Finally, I’ll give you some boundary-setting responses and frameworks to prevent you from overwhelming yourself unnecessarily by taking on too many of other people’s responsibilities. It’s delegating, but on a whole other level.   Watch on Youtube here:  https://youtu.be/s-Z9gKNEM5M  Missed the previous show? Turn Down Stress and Anxiety – The Not NLP Podcast Episode 36

    15/10/2020 Duração: 11min

Reducing stress and anxiety in yourself and others can be a simple thing to do when you are aware of and make adjustments to the type of language you use. At times, giving lots of detail helps us to avoid generalising and for communication with others, this can be a very good thing. However, when we are dealing with intense or dramatic situations that require some problem solving, it can be better to minimise what we say. Not just in terms of the level of content, but more so in the weight and size we apply to the problem. Our brains like to get a sense that a problem is solvable and feel less inclined to face the problem if it looks too complex or overwhelming. By reframing and making simple shifts in how we communicate a problem, we can reduce the severity of it and feel more empowered to do something about it. You Have Everything You Need – The Not NLP Audio Podcast Episode 34

    27/08/2020 Duração: 14min

In NLP we have convent beliefs or ways of thinking about the world called ‘presuppositions’. One of these presuppositions is ‘You already have everything you need to succeed and to achieve your desired outcomes’. This one smacked me in the face last weekend when I realised I need to apply this to an everyday scenario that was causing me trouble. Having done so, I learned something new and probably saved myself a few quid. In this podcast, you’ll hear all about the presupposition ‘You already have everything you need to succeed and to achieve your desired outcomes’ in a not very NLP way. What is Your Purpose? – The Not NLP Podcast Episode 33

    17/07/2020 Duração: 18min

In NLP there is a technique we use for categorising the levels of specificity of our language that we use, called chunking. A question for chunking up ( the process of becoming more abstract in subject matter) is “For what purpose?” At a time when many of us are going through a period of change in our lives, you may have a sense of having lost your purpose. This can be either terrifying or exciting, as there is now a chance for you to rediscover who you are and who you want to be. You may now, for example, be in a situation where you can change your career to suit your true purpose. If you are resistant to doing so, the chances are life will make a decision for you. If you are unable to adapt and innovate you may find that the option to choose a future for yourself is left in the lap of the gods and then you will no longer be carving out your future, but instead playing with luck!
